The Marie Panos MRTA Scholarship

The Marie Panos MRTA Scholarship was established in 1992 to honor the memory of Marie Panos. Marie was a teacher in the district for 28 years and president of the MRTA for 23 years. Marie cared deeply about high standards in education, and valued integrity and courageous leadership. She inspired many with her dedication to these ideals.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Marie Panos MRTA Scholarship, a student must have attended the Matawan-Aberdeen schools for at least five years and be currently enrolled in a district school. The student must be a current resident of Matawan or Aberdeen. This scholarship may be awarded to graduating MRHS seniors for college or to younger Matawan-Aberdeen students for summer study or part-time study. Candidates will be evaluated on scholarship and leadership as well as on the quality of their educational plans.

  • You must attach a current transcript (high scholl students) or a recent report card (middle and elementary school students)
  • Attach you essay to the application form
  • Remember to sign the application
  • The signture of your parent (if applicant is under 18) and a MRTA member is also required

Important Information

Recipients will be announced at the MRHS Awards Night to be held in June. Scholarship payments used for college will be made in November as payment for the second semester of the freshman year. Please send the completed application to the MRTA office at the address listed on the back. Applicants will be notified of the committee's decision.
